I just felt the urge to quote something random. (probably induced after reading some of C,KotV:DG)
There’s a particularly neat (and therefore common) paradox effect used in a lot of time travel situations that I like to call “The Windmill Effect”.
How it goes is this - a thing or event causes its own creation through time travel. I call it this because:
a) It goes around full circle, like its namesake.
b) It sounds cool :D
and my most favourite reason:
c) Because all situations like that remind me of the Song of Storms from the N64 game, Zelda OoT, where Link learns a song from an old man who says some punk kid ruined his windmill with that song, after which Link travels back in time to play the said song as the said punk kid
Of course, such paradoxes always bring up the question of “If it created itself, where the hell did it come from?”. There’s two answers for that :P For things like Zelda’s windmill song, it’s one of those retorical things that don’t have a start, but just exist in a neat “cool theory” way :D
The second is that the events within the Windmill Effect have been looping over and over until enough variation or build-up of repeated information happens that the loop is broken. These can be ultra-cool when done right, but also ultra-lame when done wrong.
I hope you have enjoyed this informative and utterly random piece of information. Btw, yes, I am a bit of a Wikipedia whore, aren’t I? XD
